Keeping a wound covered helps to prevent infection and promotes healing. You should always have a dressing on your wound.
Depending on your wound, and other health factors, the nurse may use a wide variety of dressings. Some dressings may need to be changed every day, while others can stay on for several days.
This may sound surprising, and if you have come from the hospital where dressings were changed every day, it might worry you. Don’t worry! Now that you are home or receiving care at the clinic, the kinds of dressings that will be used may be different than in the hospital.

Wounds should not be left open to the air to "breathe." We don't breathe through our skin!
If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, please contact the office you normally deal with (closest to the patient’s home address). You can find all the contact information for this office in your Welcome pamphlet.
