Is My Wound at Risk for Infection?

 

Sometimes diabetic foot ulcers can develop an infection. An infection in a diabetic foot ulcer can be very serious.

 

There are many ways to reduce the risk of infection. Your nurse will teach you how to:

  • Perform hand hygiene by washing your hands or using alcohol based hand cleaner before and after you do your dressing
  • To keep your dressing supplies in a clean container and away from pets.

Your nurse has been trained to recognize the signs of infection.
