Guatemala Update November 19/20th, 2011 Today the team went to Las Fuentes Georginas- which is a magical place up in the mountains. The road getting there was treacherous with a winding road up, washouts and lots of shrieking from the team when the bus got a little too close to the edge. It was great to see the fields high on the mountains, their irrigation system, the workers standing and tending their crops on a 45 to 50 degree slope. The hot springs were amazing. The water fell down the mountain and into 3 different pools – the hottest one first then overflowing into the next one which is a little cooler and finally the last one which is the coolest but still quite warm. The team soaked and enjoyed the sun and had a lunch before making our way back down the mountain. In the afternoon we went to the central park of Xela. There was lots of activity as there was an artisan craft show on. We finished the day with a great Italian meal for the group as we will leave the translators tomorrow- except for Lauren who will join us on the flight home. On the 20th we loaded a new bus early and headed off to Panajachel which is a village on the shores of Lake Attitlan. This is a great area in the mountains and volcanoes with several villages crowded onto the shores. We checked into our hotel which is Hotel Dos Mundos – a unique place that is like an oasis in the middle of a crazy busy commercial area. The group was tired and happy to get settled in.
